“Black folks in America are telling one party, ‘We don’t give a damn about you,’” Smith said. “They’re telling the other party, ‘You’ve got our vote.’ Therefore, you have labeled yourself ‘disenfranchised’ because one party knows they’ve got you under their thumb, the other party knows they’ll never get you and nobody comes to address your interest[s].”
Stephen A. Smith is one of my favorite analysts on ESPN. His honest, articulate commentary is always refreshing. Some people are upset about what he’s stated about “black people should vote republican…” –that isn’t exactly what he’s saying, and if you dissect his message, he has a point!
Stephen A. is only suggesting this to encourage black voters to “shake things up” for once and create a scenario where congressmen have no idea who the black voters will vote for. Then, more efforts may be made to support and satisfy their interests and needs.
Block voting without strategy — and a failure to donate to campaigns — are part of the recipe for epic fail policy outcomes. Swing voters — and voters who donate $$$ — will always get the most attention in the political process.
The sad reality is that even if every black voter did vote GOP, you’d have a mutiny within the GOP. The “disenfranchised” former-GOP voters would be courted by the DEMS for the sake of survival. The only way to get politicians to do what you want would be to talk with DONATIONS as opposed to protests and tweets.
Or maybe not, maybe it would work an create a positive political atmosphere. What do I know, I’m neither a Democrat nor a Republican and hate the political process.
